Most snow removal companies charge in one of three ways: per push (each visit), per event (each storm) or a seasonal contract (one price for the winter). Many also set a trigger depth, which is how much snow has to fall before crews come out, and bill salt or ice melt as a separate item.
Per push
You pay each time the crew clears your property. This works well in light winters. In a heavy winter, the total adds up.
Per event
You pay one price per storm, even if the crew comes back more than once during it. Read how the agreement defines an event, since a long storm may count as more than one.
Seasonal contract
You pay one price for the whole season. Your budget is set up front, but you pay the same amount in a light winter. Some seasonal contracts cap the number of visits or total inches.
What changes the price?
- Driveway size, shape and slope
- Sidewalks, steps and walkways
- How fast you need it cleared, for example before you leave for work
- Salt or ice melt
- Distance from the company
Questions to ask before you sign
- What is the trigger depth?
- How soon after the snow stops will the crew arrive?
- Are sidewalks and steps included?
- Is salt included or billed separately?
- How is damage to grass edges or landscaping handled? (See our post Can snow plowing damage my driveway?)
- Do you serve my street every time, or only in bigger storms?
Get your property ready
Mark driveway and walkway edges with stakes before the ground freezes. Move hoses, decorations and anything low that a plow or blower could hit. Point out drains, curbs and landscape beds to your crew.

FAQ
Which pricing option is cheapest?
It depends on the winter. Per push costs less in light years. A seasonal contract protects you in heavy years.
Is commercial snow removal priced the same as residential?
Usually not. Lots, sidewalks and opening-time deadlines change the scope, so most commercial properties get a custom quote.
